STORAGEOF SITAGLIPTIN:Store sitagliptin at room temperature between 68F and 77F (20Cand 25C). It can be stored briefly at a temperature between 59F and 86F(15C and 30C). Store this drug away from light.

APPLICATIONSOF SITAGLIPTIN:Sitagliptin is used along with diet and exercise and sometimes withother medications to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2diabetes (condition in which blood sugar is too high because the body doesnot produce or use insulin normally).

HOWTO USE: Sitagliptin comes as atablet to take by mouth. It is usuallytaken once a day with or without food. Takesitagliptin at around the same time every day. Follow the directions on yourprescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain anypart you do not understand.HOWSITAGLIPTIN WORKS: Sitagliptin isprescribed for people who still have high blood sugar, even though they have asensible diet and exercise regularly. It works by increasing the amount ofinsulin that your body makes. Insulin is the hormone that controls sugar levelsin your blood. Sitagliptin is only available on prescription.

CONTRAINDICATIONSOF SITAGLIPTIN: Sitagliptin is contraindicated in patients with a known sitagliptinhypersensitivity, such as anaphylaxis, urticaria, angioedema, exfoliativedermatitis or other serious skin conditions (serious rash), includingStevens-Johnson syndrome.

PHARMACOKINETICSOF SITAGLIPTIN: Sitagliptin improves glycemic control by inhibiting DPP-4 inactivation of GLP-1 andglucose-dependent insulinotropic ploypeptide.Inhibition of DPP-4 increases and prolongs the activity level of incretin,leading to a glucose-dependent increase in insulin release and a decrease inglucagon [7].

SIDE EFFECTS OF SITAGLIPTIN:  The most common side effect of sitagliptin, whichhappens in more than 1 in 100 people, is headaches. Talk to your doctor if headaches last longer than aweek or are severe. If taking sitagliptin gives you a headache, make sure yourest and drink plenty of fluids. Do not drink too much alcohol.

PRECAUTIONS: This medicine may cause bullous pemphigoid. Tell your doctor if you havelarge, hard skin blisters while using this medicine. This medicine may causesevere and disabling joint pain. Call your doctor right away if you have severejoint pain while using this medicine.
