HOW TO USE: It's best to take lercanidipine in themorning but you can take it at any time of day. Try to make sure you take it atthe same time every day. Takelercanidipine on an empty stomach, at least 15 minutes before a meal.
HOW LERCANIDIPINE WORKS: Lercanidipine isa type of medicine called a calcium channel blocker. Like other calcium channelblockers, lercanidipine works by blocking calcium going into muscles in the heart andblood vessels. Muscles need calcium to contract,so when you block the calcium, it makes the muscle cells relax and widen.
CONTRAINDICATIONS OF LERCANIDIPINE: Lercanidipine is contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment or renalimpairment (GFR < 30 ml/min), including patients undergoing haemodialysis (see section 4.2 and section 4.3). Lercanidipinehas been associated with the development of cloudy peritoneal effluent inpatients on peritoneal dialysis.
PHARMACOKINETICS OF LERCANIDIPINE: Lercanidipineis slowly butcompletely absorbed from the gut. It has a totalbioavailability of 10% due to an extensive first-pass effect, or up to 40% iftaken after a fatty meal. Highest blood plasma levels are reached after 1.5 to3 hours.
SIDE EFFECTS OF LERCANIDIPINE: Headaches. Make sure you rest and drinkplenty of fluids, Reddening of your face, neck or chest (flushing) This usuallyhappens when you first start taking lercanidipine, A fast, pounding orirregular heartbeat (palpitations), Swollen ankles (oedema)
PRECAUTIONS: Always take yourLercanidipine Clonmel tablets at least 15 minutes before a meal (breakfast).Alcohol intake may increase the effects and the side effects of lercanidipine.Therefore, youshould not drink alcohol during treatment.Grapefruit juice can increase the concentration of lercanidipine in your blood.
