STORAGE OF METOPROLOL:Storeat room temperature between 68°F and 77°F (20°C and 25°C). You may briefly store the drug at temperatures aslow as 59°F (15°C) and as high as 86°F (30°C). Keep this drug away from light.

APPLICATIONS OF METOPROLOL:Metoprolol is used alone or in combination with othermedications to treathigh blood pressure. It also is used to treatchronic (long-term) angina (chest pain). Metoprolol is also used to improvesurvival after a heart attack.

HOW METOPROLOL WORKS: Metoprolol is atype of medicine called a beta blocker. Like other beta blockers, metoprololworks by changing theway your body responds to some nerve impulses, especially in the heart. It slows down your heart rate and makes it easierfor your heart to pump blood around your body. 

CONTRAINDICATIONS OF METOPROLOL: Metoprolol is contraindicated in patients with severe bradycardia, sick sinussyndrome, second- or third-degree AV block, cardiogenic shock, decompensatedheart failure, and sick sinus syndrome unlessa functioning pacemaker is present.

PHARMACOKINETICS OF METOPROLOL: Metoprolol is mainly excreted via the kidneys. From the eliminated dose, less than 5% is recoveredunchanged. The immediate release formulations of metoprolol present a half-lifeof about 3-7 hours. The reported clearance rate on patients with normal kidneyfunction is 0.8 L/min.

SIDE EFFECTS OF METOPROLOL:  The most common adverse reactionswere tiredness,dizziness, depression, shortness of breath, bradycardia, hypotension, diarrhea,pruritus, and rash.
