STORAGE OF ESOMEPRAZOLE:Esomeprazole 0.4 and 0.8 mg/mL as thesodium salt in the infusion solutions tested is chemically and physicallystable for at least 2 days at room temperature and 5 days under refrigeration.

APPLICATIONS OF ESOMEPRAZOLE: esomeprazole is used to treat the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD), a condition in which backward flow ofacid from the stomach causes heartburn and possible injury of the esophagus(the tube between the throat and stomach) in adults and children 1 year of ageand older. 

HOW TO USE: Usually take esomeprazole once a day, first thing in the morning. You can take it with or without food. If you takeesomeprazole twice a day, take 1 dose in the morning and 1 dose in the evening.Swallow tablets and capsules whole with a drink of water (non-fizzy).

HOW ESOMEPRAZOLE WORKS: Esomeprazole is a type of medicinecalled a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Proton pumps are enzymes in the lining ofyour stomach that help it make acid to digest food. Esomeprazole prevents proton pumps from workingproperly. This reduces the amount of acid thestomach makes.

CONTRAINDICATIONS OF ESOMEPRAZOLE:  contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to substitutedbenzimidazoles or to any component of the formulation. Hypersensitivity reactions may include anaphylaxis, anaphylacticshock, angioedema, bronchospasm, acute interstitial nephritis, and urticaria 

PHARMACOKINETICS OF ESOMEPRAZOLE: Esomeprazole is extensively metabolized in the liver by the cytochromeP450 (CYP) enzyme system. The major part ofesomeprazole's metabolism is dependent upon the CYP2C19 isoenzyme, which formsthe hydroxy and desmethyl metabolites. The remaining amount is dependent onCYP3A4 which forms the sulphone metabolite.
