ALAis rapidly absorbed after oral ingestion of 50 to 600 mg thioctic acid. Thetime required to reach the maximum plasma concentrations was about 0.5to 1 h.

SIDE EFFECTS OF ALPHA LIPOIC ACID 80% COATED: The most common side effects are headache, heartburn, nausea, andvomiting. When applied to the skin: Alpha-lipoicacid is possibly safe for most adults when used as a cream for up to 12 weeks.It might cause a rash in some people.
