APPLICATIONS OF CLOSANTEL SODIUM: Closantel is a synthetic anti parasitic agent which is highly effective against adults and larvae (6 to weeksold) of liver flukes (Fasciola hepatica), and againstseveral important gastrointestinal roundworms (e.g. Bunostomum, Haemonchus, Oesophagostomum,Ostertagia - Teladorsagia, Strongyloides, Trichostrongylus).

HOW TO USE: 5.25 g of closantel sodium, 1 g of hydroxypropylcyclodextrin and 0.5 g of povidone are dissolved in each 100 mL of the mixedsolvent.

HOW CLOSANTEL SODIUM WORKS: causes an initial burst of contractions of much greateramplitude and frequency than normal in tissue vessel, the stimulation of amplitude and frequency lasted for nearly 15 minand is accompanied by a rise in muscle tone, which reaches a maximum at 16 min,at a level greater than 1.5 times.

CONTRAINDICATIONS OF CLOSANTEL SODIUM: It is widely used in management of parasitic infestation inanimals but is contraindicatedin humans and in high dose in milk producing animals because of its secretion in milk.

PHARMACOKINETICS OF CLOSANTEL SODIUM:Rapidly absorbed into the systemic circulation with peak plasma levels at 24-48hours after dosing. In plasma, closantel isbound 99% to albumin.

SIDE EFFECTS OF CLOSANTEL SODIUM Its inhibitioninterrupts their development to adult worms. This drug possesses some sideeffects: hyperacute anaphylactic reactions in cattle; hypersensitivity reactions; overdosescan cause reduced visibility or blindness, anorexia, lack of coordination andgeneral weakness.
